Heavy Metal Mouth

My last post drained me.

If you left any comments I've responded best I can but for fear of labouring the point I'll make it clear.

  • We'll always agree on saving starving Africans because that makes us feel good but the solution is military intervention which no one will sign up because there is nothing of worth in Sudan, apart from the people and as we know people are worth shit compared with oil.
  • Why any of you believe the destruction of al-Jazeera is a good thing is beyond me, killing voices of dissent is the act of a fascist.
  • The US will cut and run because it's administration and it's people are too weak to stick it out and do the right thing. They went in there and messed it up (under the false pretense of pre-emptive self-defence, which is in itself is a disgusting concept befitting of a bully not a dignified nation) and won't stick around to fix it.

Having read this story I wonder if they'll let me into New York when Marie and I come visiting on the 16th December? It could lead to an interesting debate with the notoriously self-important and aggressive US immigration staff.

Big Daddy Merk is doing some fund raising for a asylum seeker support group in Oxford by selling off a lovely treat, the story is here and the eBay link is here so bid if you fancy; all the money is going to a very good cause indeed.

Finally here is a caption competition that I want you to contribute to because you're all such funny people.

Thank you and goodnight.

  1. It's unfortunate that so many people think Al Jazeera = terrorism, or that Arab = terrorism, for that matter. Not true, people, not true.

That blog is retarded. Sorry to put in such simple terms, but to screen blogs before allowing you into the country can't be legal. I'd throw in that it violates the 1st Ammendment, but even that doesn't make much of a difference.

Enjoy your holiday to NYC. Christmas in New York is my favorite time to go. If by chance, you decided to take a daytrip into Boston, let me know. Ken and I will buy you two a pint, and you can watch me salivate over it while I drink my water.

  3. Daniel, I hope you can come to NY as a civil visitor and not a Brit Twit. I'd ignore Darren. New Yorkers get really pissed off at assholes discussing blowing up anything in their city.

Regarding a military intervention in Africa, I say go for it Big D. You sound like a leader. Rally the troops and set sail. Every little bit helps. Besides, folks will stop thinking of you as all talk and no action. Lay it on the line and don't be "too weak" to see it through. I'm behind you. Make a difference, Daniel.

  4. I'm with you on the Al Jazeera thing and I'm an American. The early stages of facsism are all around us here, but only a few of us seem to be noticing it. We've decided to stay until the very last minute. We love our country and want to be a part of it, but I don't think we can stop it's chosen course. We'll do our best while we can, but when we find there's nothing left to do we'll get out. How scary it is to even have to contemplate leaving one's country to escape a repressive government.

  6. Jodi: thanks so much for the invite, I've been to Boston twice now and I love the place. A real gem in the US.

Hillary: I'm detecting an air of sarcasm and fair enough but it seems you've missed the jist of the post concerning the intervention in Sudan.

    PC: Thanks!

  7. Hi hon! Be careful of tarring us all with the same brush. Many of us have different reasons for what we believe, and it's not always because we're weak.

Why any of you believe the destruction of al-Jazeera is a good thing is beyond me, killing voices of dissent is the act of a fascist.
Hon, no one is talking about killing voices of dissent. Otherwise the democrats and moderates (such as I) would all be dead and bleeding. A.J. is a group of thugs that are not-so-secretly encouraging terrorism.

The US will cut and run because it's administration and it's people are too weak to stick it out and do the right thing. Weak? Nah. If we were weak we wouldn't have been able to go over there to begin with. Try a better description - bully, if you'd like. I don't think we are but it's a more sellable adjective.

I don't want us there because I don't think it's up to us to be peacekeepers. If they're a threat, I have no problem with going in there and cleaning out the threat. I just don't believe in sticking around afterwards. It's a principle for me, not weakness. You see, I don't believe we're the World's Policemen. Now, if they want to pay us for the privilege, then fine!

  8. Saur: I was cross when I wrote it, I've had some emails on the issue as well and I was referring more to those people.

al-Jazeera is a legitimate news agency and not a mouthpiece for terror but looks like we'll have to agree to disagree.

As for world's policemen, well you're the world's empire but as I've made the point time and time again you're a grudging one; this is not a good thing. A full on empire so to speak would be good for you and good for the world. I'm talking about America embracing itself as the one world power and using that role for good rather than what vested, petty interests of the ruling elite.

    Anywho, peace.

  9. I think we're not as much of a world empire as we seem to be. We have money, and because of that, power, but our economy is starting to go downhill, with that, our money. We're going to end up in a very difficult position in the next 50 years. It's a scene we know well, the rich being a small percent, the poor overwhelming. And we all know how that ends. It's hard to watch the cycle and just sit back for the ride. We're going a bad way, and it doesn't even really have anything to do with facism. That's just a symptom of a bigger problem. The religious say, "Think about God, not money." I say, "Fuck God, think about your fellow man." Since Greece and Rome we've been going in circles, generation after generation. Isn't it about time we all broke the ring and tried going in a different direction?

  10. PC: the idea of a world superpower, of empire is a natural thing. The US is far from a falling empire but one still on the rise.

Until Europe rises up that is...

  11. I'm not sure we're as much on the rise as poeple think. We may have the world fooled.

  12. By the way, is everything okay? The post above seems a little, um, intense.

  13. yeah daniel, it is by no means a falling empire, it's on the rise, and a fast rise indeed. but what sort of emipre it is going to be is really scary.

on my blog i posted many things...the need to condemn symbols of my relegion in all fronts which means the next thing that follows such spread of hatred is just a new holocaust, for muslims this time!, can they tell me how many muslims are terrorists anyway?! with all the fuss in the world?! out of 1.3 billion, can the be like what, a 100,000? 500,000? a million? is this worth such hatred for anybody who was born a muslim?

see comments in my blog like:

"death islamist, death leftism"!!!!!! and things calling me names for being a muslim! all this hatred is what you'll see reflections of in the future,

and no, Sudan doesn't matter for now, there is Oil and there is strategic domination of parts of the world to side line other forces....the world has gone mad, and things are already spirlaling out of control..

  14. Remember, though, you are seeing it fromt he outside.

  15. Yeah, I am (we are) but I read a lot of books, a lot of economical data, a lot of other stuff that makes me feel sure that the US is the world's empire and yes, it will fall but when depends on whether it buys into the idea of empire (which it won't). if it did it'd last a lot longer but it won't because as I've already said it doesn't have the force of will and it's people have grown too squeamish in matters of war.
